Welcome to Quirk World

One of the most difficult things about social media online job searching (even here in fun Boston) is when a company asks for what is essentially evidence that you're a fun person. Or some sort of a peek into your personality -- of any sort. How do you get that across? Or at least, how do you communicate that without either it falling flat or you looking incredibly weird?

And what happens if you're a little quirky?

Okay, very quirky.

It's a bit like when Casual Fridays first surfaced in the mainstream corporate world. No one really knew what to do. Did you wear a blazer but with your shirt very slightly unbuttoned? Did you wear flip-flops? Were tee shirts okay? Jeans? Midriff exposure? It opened up an enormous can of invertebrates. Plus you always had someone who just took it too far, and did so immediately. Casual Friday would be announced on the first of the month and, by the third, someone would be wearing a stained and torn Jack Daniels tee shirt, exposing a scary tattoo or some sort of intimate body part, all while wearing jeans a plumber would be embarrassed to be sporting. You know what I mean.

Case in point: the above joke has most likely fallen flat and/or offended whiskey fans. Wins are not easy to come by in this area.

Even my name is a tad quirky. My full name, Janet Gershen-Siegel is unique (which is both a blessing and a curse on Google), and jespah, my standard user name, was a male lion anyway.

My BFF's friends came up with the idea for the Jablonsky Exploding Handbag when they were at Temple University. And now I've made a Youtube for it (yes, this is really me although I don't talk like that. Much.). Janice needs to meet the Old Spice Guy:

Therefore, Quirk World might be a place to get across at least a little of my personality. This is probably going to be the area of the site that takes the longest to complete. It's a tug of war between wanting to be funny, wanting to be liked and wanting to be hired for social media marketing, inbound marketing and the like. Hopefully by the same person(s).

Anyway, stay tuned, and I hope you'll occasionally peek into Quirk World. Cue the Twilight Zone music.
